You are in good hands at this retreat. Guidance and leadership is provided and co-created by Dori Howard and Shannon Cowan , certified Kundalini yoga teachers. You will be guided through the kundalini practice of kriyas, meditations and breath work geared to calm the over-active mind, awakening inner awareness and peace. This retreat is supported by the inner work and extended offerings of two exceptional nourishers and healers: Tisha Boulter and Cornelia Krikke

What you will do at the retreat:

• Kundalini yoga kriyas, meditations, gong bath, mini-workshops
• Early morning Aquarian sadhana
• Fire ceremony
• Seva
• Guided hike
• Be nourished with delicious vegetarian meals
• Swim, paddle, row, relax at the private oceanfront beach
• Relax on one of the many expansive decks
• Connect, share, play and have fun(!)

Accommodations and Meals:

Accommodations for the retreat will be cozy and comfortable with the following options available: (all showers/bathrooms are shared)

Costs for this  3-day retreat are per person and cover oceanfront accommodation, newly renovated venue, nourishing food (3 dinners, 3 lunches, 3 breakfasts and snacks), skilled facilitators, exceptional cook, purposeful retreat activities, guided hikes.

Dietary needs: Meals are vegetarian. Please indicate if you have any food allergies on the registration form.

A limited number of massage and Eden Energy Medicine treatments are available during the retreat during the free time blocks. These must be pre-registered and pre-paid for. To register, select the practitioner and time slot you want and add to your cart. Learn more about Tisha and Cornelia.

Location and how to get there:

The enso Retreat Centre is located on tranquil Salt Spring Island, BC - where Zen meets West Coast. This 4.3-acre oceanfront property has stunning sunsets, soothing waves gently rolling into a private smooth stone beach, dense forests of arbutus and fir trees, a babbling brook and close proximity to hiking and the funky town of Ganges.

To get there, you must travel by BC Ferries. Bring your car and/or carpool with other participants. Walk-on is possible and often there is a bus that drops off in Ganges. Connect with us beforehand to arrange a ride from the town of Ganges or the ferry terminal to the property. The summer is a busy place on Salt Spring Island, especially weekends.  Reserve your ferries soon, especially if you plan to leave Sunday afternoon.

What to bring:

• Walking shoes
• Water shoes (flip flops etc.)
• Comfortable clothing/layers for sitting in retreat, early morning meditation, (shawls, blankets), going outside, walking
• An object/artifact that represents who you are now or resonates with renewal
• Journal and pen
• Water bottle, thermos
• Headlamps or flashlight
• Yoga mat, blanket, cushions if you have them

About the Facilitators:

Shannon Cowan


Shannon began her journey with Yoga at age 16, practising Hatha Yoga with her parents in the mornings. Discovering Kundalini Yoga at age 23 began a lifelong practice, in which she has been blessed to experience mental and physical release and strengthening, relaxation and awakening of deep self-love. She has been joyfully teaching Kundalini Yoga for 18 years, and also teaches prenatal and family yoga.  In addition to her love of yoga practice and teaching, Shannon is a doula and childbirth educator; she has also taught post-secondary plant science and sustainable agriculture and agroecology for 14 years,  was co-founder of an ecovillage, and currently coordinates a local- and provincial government roundtable about water resource management on Salt Spring Island. Shannon shares her life with an active and community-engaged partner, their beautiful teen daughter, inspiring and steadfast friends, and extended family.  She loves welcoming the unknown with joy, vulnerable human connections, deep listening and coaching, learning at the edge, swimming, hiking, trail running, paddling, wilderness trips, food gardening, plant medicines, botany, dancing, and singing by the campfire.

Dori’s mantra, “it’s all about the learning,” is integrated into all aspects of her life. Her experiences in healthcare for over 30 years have brought many lessons of giving, receiving, health and wellness. This past year has been a steep learning curve in the practice of self-compassion. Dori’s view is that there is no magic bullet but rather a range of life practices that can move us ‘a shade more…’ towards wellness and healing. She created a self-prescribed holistic care plan that included yoga, meditation, conscious nutrition, hiking, and time in nature in her daily life in order to balance compassion for self and others. The healing environment at Enso Beach House and Forest on Salt Spring Island has created a safe, holistic space to become A Shade More… Whole. Dori is a skilled facilitator with extensive experience in leading individual and group learning activities. She is a certified executive coach. Her passion is creating spaces and opportunities for people to reflect, learn and try out new (or re-activate) practices that move them toward life wellness, consciousness and wholeness.  She is newly certified as a Kundalini yoga teacher and values the depth of awareness and emotional agility this practice has gifted her.  

Tisha Boulter


Tisha has been a practicing certified Bodyworker for over 20 years. Her work ranges from mindful deep tissue to light energy rebalancing depending on the needs of her clients. She weaves various techniques together to offer a nurturing, integrated and healing treatment. Tisha's style is influenced by Esalen, Trager, Acupressure, Reiki, and Auryvedic oil massage. In addition to providing some of the nourishing vegetarian meals for the retreat, Tisha also offers bodywork sessions.

Cornelia J Krikke

Cornelia is the Founder of Transformative Practices Studio.  She is a multi modality Life Coach with an MA in transpersonal studies, an MBA, and an EEM-CP.  She has multiple fields of training and research with decades of corporate experience that underpin her coaching and training methodology. In corporate roles she specializes in Operations Management and Finance. Her experience teaching at U of G and later as an academic chair at GBC, instilled ‘best practices’ in education.  

Cornelia is a Kundalini and Astanga teacher and a gong player.  The gong is a percussion instrument that traces its roots back to the Bronze Age around 3500 BC.  The healing experience of a gong bath can be life changing.  At a minimum it is profoundly energetically cleansing.  

She is an authorized practitioner and teacher of Eden Energy Medicine. The specific energy treatment she provides for this retreat combine Eden Energy Medicine and Sat Nam Rasayan. The energy balancing treatments are rejuvenating and relaxing.  Healers inevitably learn to listen to the direction healing wants to go. She listens attentively while working with clients. This is a hands on practice where clients remain fully clothed.
